First Profession of Br Lee Theissling at St Anthony's, Hawthorn, Melbourne

Br Lee Professes his Vows for the First Time

At First Profession what was purely optional at the beginning of the Novitiate, becomes an agreement expressed in the formula of the vows. In the totality of selflessness; the complete, generous, self-giving; the “yes” to God, a friar commits himself completely, for life to this vocation.  Even though the commitment is called “Temporary Profession” the spirituality and force of the act is a complete surrender.  Being temporary does not make it a lesser commitment.  The celebration of 25th and 50th Profession of vows will be taken from this first profession not from the time of Perpetual Profession.  In the end it is not a matter of maturity, but of a decision.  A decision to make a life- long commitment.   Br. Lee Theissling made this commitment at St Anthony’s, Hawthorn, in a beautiful yet simple ceremony on Saturday 4th December in the presence of the friars, his two grandmothers, mother, brother and sister, relatives and friends.  It was wonderful to have present a group of Br Lee’s old school friends from Traralgon, Sales Diocese.
