TED HARROP, OFM Cap - RIP

Our brother Ted died in hospital on the morning of Saturday 31 January 2004 after a serious illness caused by a virus that left him paralysed from the waist down for almost a year.

Read the Story of his funeral Mass

Br Ted (Edward) was born on 8 January 1931. He made his first profession of vows as a Capuchin Franciscan on 15 August 1968 and was ordained to the Priesthood on 19 August 1972 in Heathcote, Victoria.

Before he entered the Capuchin Order Ted spent many years as a "gun" shearer. His work took him to many parts of Australia and New Zealand. In his younger days Ted also had a reputation for being a very good Australian Football player.

Through the years Br Ted has served in the friaries and parishes of Wynnum Central, Newton, Plumpton, Leichhardt and Balcatta.

Br Ted was the Guardian of our Formation House at Plumpton. He brought to Plumpton years of experience, common sense, a willingness to do the hard work, a love of gardening and landscaping and a strong "no-nonsense" faith born of working on the land.

Speaking of gardening and landscaping, when you visit the friaries of our Order, here in Australia, invariably you will find a grotto dedicated to Our Lady – Ted constructed all of those. When you say a prayer in front of any of these grottos, remember to say a prayer for our Br Ted. Plumpton too underwent a metamorphosis as Br Ted continued to work his arboreal magic on the place.
