NewsReport on Young Franciscan Weekend in Adelaide HillsFrom the evening of Friday 20th February till the afternoon of Sunday 22nd February a weekend of Franciscan spirituality was held for young people in a place called Woodhouse in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. Approximately thirty young people from Adelaide and surrounding areas attended as well as a good number of SFO helpers and four friars: Brs. Tung Nguyen, Robert Stewart, Allan Welshman and Paul Winter. All in all there were over forty people experiencing the weekend together. Even though most of the young people did not know each other, all of them became comfortable very quickly with each other and the secular Franciscans and friars. The weekend was a serious but joyfilled occasion with talks given on the nature of the Church, sexual morality, and reconciliation as well as the witness of the life of one of the secular Franciscans, Mrs. Jan Ruff. Besides that there was a lot of time for personal reflection, talking to each other and having fun! This is the first weekend for young people that the Secular Franciscans of Adelaide have attempted and judging from the feedback it was a resounding success. The response from the young people was overwhelmingly positive and all desired that more such weekends be arranged. Congratulations to the group of young people who together with the SFO’s put in so much hard work organising and leading the weekend. They intend to have regular meetings of young people in the wake of this weekend so more and more people can get to know Christ, and his servant Francis, better. 22 February 1998 Archived News items:2001
