NewsWE WELCOME THE POSTULANTS OF 2001
On Sunday, 18 March the Capuchin friars welcomed four new men to begin their time as Capuchin Postulants at Assumption Friary in Plumpton, Sydney. Postulancy is a time of deeper discernment of our way of life. This discernment is undertaken by living with the friars, sharing in their life of prayer, fraternity and ministry. We offer them all our prayers and best wishes as they continue to seek the voice of the Lord in their lives. Our new postulants are: Long Nguyen, (30 YEARS) comes from Campbelltown in South Australia.
He was born in Saigon, Vietnam on the 18th of June 1970. His family left Vietnam
by
boat as refugees in January 1980 and arrived eventually in Malaysia. By very
good fortune they were accepted by the Australian
Government on compassionate grounds and arrived in Adelaide on the 8th of April
1980 – Long was about 7 years old. The adjustment of his family from
their life in Vietnam to the Australian way of life was not easy. However Long
did exceptionally well at school and completed a Bachelor of Science in the
Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science in 1992 and a Bachelor of Engineering
in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Adelaide in 1993.
He worked in Computer Science and Technology from 1989 to 1999. At that point
in time he realised that he really wanted to work more with helping people
cope with their lives and volunteered
to assist people living with mental difficulties at the Strathmont Center in
Adelaide. This and attending Mass at Newton led him to seriously consider a
Religious Vocation with the Capuchins. Luan Le, (28 YEARS) was born on the 19th of November 1973 in Saigon, Vietnam. His father arrived in Australia in 1985 and later brought his family out in 1989 - Luan was about 16 years old. He presently comes from Ferrydan Park in South Australia. He is the youngest in his family. He attended The Parks High School at Angle Park South Australia for his education. Went on to the University of South Australia and gained a Bachelor of Applied Science, Medical Laboratory. He worked in Port Augusta and Port Lincoln as a Lab Technician for the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science. He was involved in the local town choir and came to know the Capuchins by reading "OzCaps" our Vocational Newsletter in his parish Church. Brendan Donahue, (23 YEARS) comes from Narraweena in New South Wales. He was born on the 28th of October 1977. At school he excelled in English, Drama, Art, Society, Culture and Debating. In 1996 Brendan began an Arts Degree at Macquarie University, then he had the opportunity to take up an acting career. Later he attended the Australian Catholic University. He went to the World Day of Youth in Rome. Since returning he has been teaching catechetics and attending youth meetings. Lee Theisling, (20 YEARS) comes from Traralgon in Victoria.
