Br Bernard appears on "Rove Live"

Br Bernard Cunningham got his big chance at National TV on "Rove Live" Channel Ten on Tuesday Night 9:30pm – 10-30pm, 5th June 2001.

Br Bernard, wearing his habit did a James Bond impersonation of Sean Connery "My name is Bond, James Bond…" and took off Jack Nicholson, with a quote from the film "As good as it gets" and also did Clint Eastwood’s "You feeling lucky, go ahead make my day!" Rove treated him with the proper respect mixed with a twinkle of humour. "We have for you tonight a real friar a Capuchin Friar! They named Cappuccino Coffee after that. He is going to do some impersonations for us. Yea!" In all Bernard did three appearances in the hour long show. After Clint Eastwood Rove suggested Bernard was worth an Oscar.

Br Bernard sent this note into the provincial:

"I arrived in Melbourne about 5:00pm. Channel 10 paid for the entire trip and put me up in a plush hotel in time for a quick drink and a meal. I kept looking at the clock all the time, as I had to be at the studio at 8:00pm for a rehearsal, which they told me about when I finally arrived there.

I took a taxi confident that I would be on time, but the taxi driver a Turkish bloke had to look up his Street Directory because we were lost. I had to nudge him because the light turned green. He couldn’t find the street so I asked him to give me the book. Then, when I realised that we were really lost, I asked him to dial a certain number on his mobile phone and we told the coordinator of "Rove Live" we were lost. In the end we arrived in plenty of time.

They were all very friendly and I met a lot of people connected with the show. They took me through the procedures. Amanda was my guide through the night. They kept asking me if I wanted a drink or food. In the end they gave me a T Shirt. They are sending a donation to our local St Vincent de Paul in the mail.

I arrived back in Brisbane at 8:30am on Wednesday morning and went straight to a lecture on Schizophrenia. I was very tired but grateful and happy to have had the last 24 hours."

Good for you Bernard!
